WA, Surface d’autonomie temporarie

For years, paintings and drawings diversify themselves in traditional and contemporary styles within the canvas. Escaping the framework, are WA (WA, Surface of temporary Autonomy in English) artists who chose to work directly onto the surfaces of walls, ceilings, and grounds – transforming a mere space into a work of art.

WA is a travelling mural exhibition which divides the crossroad of this form of expression into several domains: traditional wall painting, urban expression and conceptual procedure. Unlike paintings and sculptures, WA is reproduced each time it travels by different art practitioners from different countries, following the prototypes created by the original fifteen French artists. WA in Singapore will be presenting five of the fifteen paintings reproduced by Singaporean artists and art students from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts.

This project aims to reflect diffusion and pushes the boundary of procedure and ramification of contemporary mural. Every stage of WA is nourished by a preceding framework, giving birth to a network, an exhibition transmitting into a space, and in time, it adapts itself to the places and to its contexts.
WA has been to Paris, Jakarta, Bangkok, Argentina, Seoul and will be in Singapore in the month of July at the Alliance Française de Singapour.
