A L’IMPARFAIT DE L’OBJECTIF
Photo Exhibition by ROBERT DOISNEAU

The Month of Photography (MOP) 2006 presents retrospective exhibitions of the French Masters – Robert Doisneau and Henri Cartier-Bresson, at the SG Private Banking Gallery at the Alliance Française de Singapour and The Arts House respectively, as well as 5 new Singaporean photographers.

Considered to be one of the greatest photographers in the last century, Robert Doisneau took his first photo in 1929. Even as his work as a commercial sketcher led him to discover and develop an interest in photography, it is not till 1939 that he decided to become a freelance photographer.

A l’imparfait de l’objectif comprises photos Doisneau took throughout the course of his life, in which he attempts to illustrate his visions of beauty and goodness, and to share with us moments of happiness found in daily life. Witness to a tumultuous history, haunted by the inevitable passage of time, Doisneau endeavours – by capturing superfluous and unfinished expressions – to make each and everyone of us aware of the temporal nature of life.

A l’imparfait de l’objectif begins at the SG Private Banking Gallery, Alliance Française de Singapore from 7 June to 29 June 2006, Early Works by Henri Cartier-Bresson begins at The Arts House from 7 June to 29 June, and Out of Focus, a Singapore component of MOP will also be presented at the City Room @ Basheer. MOP is organised in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival.

07 – 29 June 2006
Mon to Fri, 11am to 7pm, Sat, 11am to 5pm & Closed on Sundays
